Payments, delivery, trust. Three hurdles every SA online store has to clear.

Getting paid

South Africans trust PayFast, Yoco and the like more than an unknown international gateway. Most people shop on their phones, so the checkout has to work on a small screen. If your customer cannot pay the way they already pay offline, your cart fills up and then empties out.

Being honest about delivery

Surprise shipping fees at checkout are the most reliable cart killer there is. Show the cost early. Then give real timelines, because courier delivery to a Johannesburg CBD apartment and a Mpumalanga small town are two different worlds.

Earning trust

Real product photos, a physical address, a phone number someone actually answers. This last one surprises people. South African buyers will phone before they order from a store they have never heard of. If nobody picks up, that sale is gone.

The platform is the easy part

Everyone argues about WooCommerce versus Shopify versus Odoo. The platform matters less than the fundamentals. A lean store on fast local hosting will outperform a bloated one hosted overseas every time, and it loads quick enough that mobile data costs don't scare your customer off halfway through checkout.

Where Olorun Cloud fits

We run online stores on locally hosted infrastructure with PayFast integration. We also run our own storefront, so this advice comes from operating experience, not a brochure.
