Most South African online stores fail on the same three things, and none of them are the software.

Getting paid

South Africans do not all pay the same way. PayFast is the safe default because customers recognise the name at checkout, but a good number of your buyers will want to pay by EFT instead, and some will abandon the cart before they push a card. You need both paths open from day one. Settle on a currency, settle on a gateway, and run the whole flow yourself before you tell anyone the store is live.

Honest delivery

Surprise shipping fees are the fastest way to kill a cart. Show the cost before the customer reaches checkout, and be realistic about timelines. Courier to a city centre is easy. Courier to a rural address in the Eastern Cape takes longer and costs more, and pretending otherwise just buys you an angry WhatsApp at six in the evening.

Looking trustworthy

Real product photos, a physical address, a phone number someone actually answers. South African shoppers are wary, and rightly so, because plenty of stores have burned people. If your About page is empty and your only contact route is a web form, you are asking strangers to hand you their card details on faith alone.

The platform matters far less than the fundamentals. A lean store on fast local hosting beats a bloated one every time. Olorun Cloud runs online stores, including our own, so talk to us if you want the setup done properly. Bring the idea in its rough form and we will tell you straight what it needs.
